Private Swimming Lessons in Arkley, Barnet — Lessons at Our Exclusive Home Pool
There aren't many places in north London where you can have a heated private pool entirely to yourself for a swimming lesson. Arkley is one of them.
Our private home pool in Arkley, Barnet is where a lot of our most meaningful coaching happens. It's not a leisure centre, it's not a sports facility, and it's not shared with anyone else while you're in it. It's a quiet, warm, completely private space — and for a lot of our clients, that makes all the difference.
The Pool
The pool is 10 metres long, heated to a consistent 30°C, and set within a private residence in Arkley. It has both shallow and deep ends, which means we can work with complete beginners who need the reassurance of standing depth, right through to more confident swimmers working on deeper-water skills like treading water, diving and turns.
The temperature alone is worth mentioning. Public pools tend to hover around 26–28°C, which is fine for lane swimming but can feel uncomfortably cold for nervous swimmers or young children who aren't moving much. At 30°C, the water feels genuinely inviting — relaxed bodies learn faster, and that warmth makes a real difference particularly in the early sessions when building confidence is the priority.
The pool is meticulously maintained and there is parking directly outside for up to three cars, so the practical side of getting here and getting in is as simple as possible.
Who Teaches Here
Lessons at Arkley are one-to-one only. Your instructor's full attention is on you for the entire session — there's no group to keep pace with, no waiting while someone else gets individual feedback, no sense of being watched by other swimmers.
Sessions run 60 or 90 minutes depending on what suits you. For younger children or anyone in the early stages of building water confidence, 60 minutes is usually plenty. For more experienced swimmers working on technique, endurance or specific skills, 90 minutes gives more room to get into the detail.
Who the Arkley Pool Works Best For
Complete beginners — adults and children. Starting from scratch in a private pool with no audience is a fundamentally different experience from a public lesson. There's no self-consciousness, no comparison with other swimmers, and no pressure to keep up. Just calm, focused progress at whatever pace suits you.
Nervous or anxious swimmers. If you or your child have had a difficult experience in water before — a fright, a bad lesson, or simply years of avoidance — this environment tends to be where things finally shift. The combination of warm water, complete privacy and undivided attention removes most of the triggers that make anxiety worse.
Children who struggle in busy pool environments. Busy public pools can be genuinely overwhelming for some children — the noise, the unpredictability, the sense of being watched. The Arkley pool is quiet, calm and entirely predictable. Many parents tell us it's the first place their child has actually enjoyed being in the water.
SEN and disability clients. The controlled, private environment at Arkley is well-suited to clients with autism, sensory sensitivities, physical disabilities or other additional needs. No unexpected noise, no strangers, no complicated changing room logistics. Just a calm, consistent session focused entirely on what you need.
Intermediate and advanced swimmers. If you can already swim but want to work on technique, build stamina, prepare for a triathlon, or nail a stroke you've never quite got right, the pool is well set up for that too. The deep end allows for proper diving and turning practice, and the 10-metre length is enough to work on genuine stroke mechanics without feeling like you're in a paddling pool.
Availability
The Arkley pool is available Monday to Friday. Availability is limited — we keep the schedule deliberately manageable to maintain the quality and exclusivity of each session — so if you have a preferred day or time in mind, it's worth getting in touch sooner rather than later.
We don't run waiting lists in the traditional sense, but we do keep note of interest for specific time slots and contact people when they become available.
